WCB Team Member: Afshin Afshar
Hey, my name is Afshin and I am your friendly neighborhood Bloggerman! I actually don’t know much about football, but because Bob Kellett promised me a pair of roundtrip airline tickets to Germany 2006, and free passes to all the
Brazil games, I decided to give it a shot! Bob is gone now, but I am still blogging on.
My goal in life is to one day, when I grow up, write as well as Euler of Brazil Blog, as fast as Trent of Ecuador Blog, and have a writing career that lasts as long as Ali Daei’s football career!! I’ve a blog of my own called lastkick.com on which I practice (almost) everyday.
I live in San Francisco, where the hills are green during the winter and brown in the summer, it is freezing during the month of July, the earth shakes every fifteen minutes or so, and anyone to the right of the far left is considered a right-wing reactionary!
I play football with a bunch of friends most of whom play much better than I do, so I just stand around and try to trip any one within my reach before I get too tired and leave the game with sever leg cramps!
I have high expectations from this World Cup, and I predict that Iran Football Federation (IRIFF) will finally find a head coach around June of 2010 and fire him immediately after the second game of the group stage! That is of course assuming that we will make it that far!!
That’s it! If you have any complaints or grievances about what I write in the Iran World Cup Blog, send it to Daryl. Bob was the one who recruited me, but Daryl decided to keep me around, so he should be held accountable for my awful writing!
Let’s hope for a great World Cup Qualifying round. I can not say ”We’ll see you there” because I have no fate in IRIFF getting its act together and help Team Melli qualify, but if your team qualifies, you make sure to enjoy the Beautiful Game, and I’ll be enjoying it right alongside you in absentia.

I came across your blog as I was surfing the web today. I enjoyed your comment on the Iranian football and coaches, especially they bad mouth each other today but as soon as they see each other they kiss and make up.
Anyway, I am sorry to hear you are a Perspolis fan, because I am a TAJ (Esteglal)fan. Other than your poor taste in your choice of team, I enjoyed reading your blog. I am a huge fan of Nasar Hejazi and I believe he would take us to the promise land if they leave him alone, but as you know it’s impossible in our culture to leave people be. I live in Maryland and like you play football on weekend.
Ehsan

Hi Ehsan jAn, thank you for your comments. I am glad you liked the blog, if you read Persian, check the Persian section of lastkick.com (my blog) you get daily news from Iran.
By the way, I am not a hardcore Perspolis fan. I used to be when I lived in Iran many, many, many years ago as a kid, so we should be cool

Afshin jan – are you serious when you say “you don’t actually know much about football”? Your comments are actually saying the opposite – I think you know a lot about football, well at least more than what Mayeli-Kohan or Ferdosi-Puor know
Keep up the good work anyway and let’s stay friends until the end of the world

Thanks Hamid jAn, you are on about staying friends
