Bad news for Team Melli

This may not be as bad as the media may want to make it to be, but it is bad nevertheless.

Fereydoon Zandi and Sattar Zare are out of Mexico game. Zandi came down with a fever, and Zare hurt his knee in practice.

That could mean Mehrzad Madanchi starting for Zare and Mohammad Nosrati on the left (He was the starter there anyway).

Anyway, click here for the AFP report.

Other than the U.S. team, there’s no more overhyped team than Iran.

Mexico 3 – Iran 1

(And the Iran goal will come in ‘garbage time’.)

Oswaldo will be back for the match and Mexico will be fired up.

And if he is not, despite his inexperience, Corona is the shit.

are you kidding me tarkaba?

mexico is one of the most, if not the most, overhyped team in the world cup

first by getting a number 1 seeding over much better teams (Netherlands, Czech, Portugal), because of the stupid fifa grouping style

mexico does NOT deserve to be in the top 10 teams in the world

and oh by the way, lets see when you get passed the round of 16 (which only occurs every 20 years IN mexico)

Iran isn’t overhyped at all. We know our country isn’t at where it should be to advance easily, we know we’re the underdogs against Mexico/Portugal, but at least we’re hoping for a draw or possibly a win.

Hey tarkaba
if I am not mistaken, you told already the result will be

Mexico 1 – 3 Iran

Now you have a second chance to correct your comments. I command you, OK?

But I believe it would be
Mexico 1 – 2 Iran

At least we have qualified to the Round of 16.

Half of the points to get seeded come from previous WC performances. If I’m not mistaken, Mexico ranked 5th in previous WC performance points. Can’t argue with that. Add that to the rankings (yes, flawed, but they benefit Mexico as much as they do Iran since both teams are in relatively weak areas), our Copa America performances (two second and two third places) and the marvelous display at last year’s Confederations, and that seeding does not seem too crazy.
And if we only qualify to the Quarterfinals every twenty years, we are due on this one.

Karimi? Pffft. Looks like Arellano to me: great dibbler, very poor finisher.

as for your prediction, hey you may be right, you’re playing Iran not Portugal

what the rest of my buddies of mine are saying on this forum is watch out some unexpected things might go down, as it always does in the world cup

you take this stuff way too seriously

Hey tarkaba,
Mixico played only one time against Iran’s second team and It was Mexico 2 – 1 Iran. But watch out this time. You will play against real Iran with bunch of bundes league stars.
Cause this game is on sunday and you go to church to pray for your injured goal keeper. and probably you will miss the live game, have the result for your refrence::::

Mexico 1 – 2 Iran

I wish you the best in your sunday service…

regards,
Abbas

IRANic that I’m not the one bringing on religion to the discussion. Too much class to do something like that.

Anyway.

Injured goalkeeper? Huh?

You guys need to grow some thicker skin, can’t even stand a little trashtalking.

Reminder:

Mexico 3 – 1 Iran

Hi all,

Im Luis from Mexico. I will be on Sunday going to the match in Nürnberg. First of all I respect a lot the Iranian team and my respect goes to all their people. I just hope that we enjoy a nice game and that the best one win. I feel bad for Tarkaba comming here to heat up things that shouldnt need to be like that. Lets enjoy and let the best one win if it is Mexico I will be very happy but if it is Iran I will accept it and clap their victory :) I hope That both Iran and Mexico make it to the next round.

Cheers to all the Iranian people!

Saludos
Luis

No matter what anyones says on this forum Mexico is the favorite to take this group. But as we all know anything can happen in The World Cup as what matters is what happens on the field and not off it. Out of the three teams the team I worry most about is Iran for the immense speed and offensive power. Despite all the mentions of outside factors such as death in the football family and injuries abound, such manners will not be a determinent factor on Sunday’s match. Iran will set the standard for how Mexico is to do in the tournament. Angola is still in their innocent stage of development and Portugal time and time again continues to choke and show a poor display of competitiveness when it matters. I expect Mexico to take home a victory but if they were to draw or lose to Iran I would not be shocked.

Caesfinr,

Completely agreed. Iran is an up and comer, a fast, strong and with good technique team; like you said, this match will dictate how Mexico does in the Cup.

I say Mexico 3 – 1 Iran for several reasons:

a) Mexico has a solid defense that has been working together for years.

b) For what I’ve see of Iran, their defense tends to commit several mental mistakes. Mexico’s strategy and pre-designed stopped-ball plays are top-notch, as demonstrated by the Borgetti goal against Holland.

c) Iran reminds somewhat of the 1998 Mexican team. They can create goal opportunities really easily, but they tend to not convert a lot of them.

d) If Oswaldo is there, and it appears he will be (he is flying straight from Guadalajara to Nuremberg), the emotional factor will be on Mexico’s side. The team will be fired up.

e) Mexico has been preparing for over two months, the longest of all the participating teams.

f) Experience.

g) The Mexican crowd, despite maybe facing an Iranian majority in Nuremberg, is never to be underestimated.

h) Franco scored six goals in the latest Mexico tune-up. Yes, it came against a Gottingen local team, but the important part is that he may be peaking at the right time. We’ll see on Sunday.

i) Mexico has a lot of flexibility in their personnel and strategy. Lavolpe has been exercising a lot of different looks over the past four years.

That’s why I see Mexico winning.

Not good! What we need is confidence, with nothing lacking. Each foot forward needs to lead to a goal, and the goal is the trophy! Go, Iran, Go!
