Daei out of the World Cup
Ali Daei is “injured” and will not be available for the next two games. That is the official news out of the Team Melli camp.
Unofficial news is that he is NOT injured and he either chose to not play or was told he wouldn’t.
In either case, this comes about 4 years too late. He should have resigned the day after we lost the playoff to Ireland. Iran won the return leg in Tehran 1:0. He could have done what Bagheri did and retired from international football.
We have so much young talent in Iran that it is ridicules for any coach to not tap into it and instead stick to older players that are way past their prime.
Watch Iran play a lot better against Portugal. We will probably lose but it will not be because we did not try.

Hi Kelvin,
I read in the Iranian papers that karimi had injured his ankle. Apparently one of the tackles in the first half aggrevated the ankle on which he had done surgery.
Number 14 is Anderanik Teymourian. He is one of the young and upcoming Iranian stars. I am confident that he’ll be moving to Europe after the WC.
LOL! on defense! What defense?! I didn’t know we had one!
You are right. Iranian players love to attack and they stink when it comes to defense. Ironically number 5 (Rezaei) who committed the error on the second goal is our best defender. He played well all day, but that one slip cost us dearly. He has been playing in Serie A for the last few years and has been a starter with both Prugia and Messina.
I think we will play better against Portugal, but I think Portugal will win 3:1 or 4:1.
With that said, watch out Portugal, here we come!!

Kelvin is correct. Portugal has a beautiful attacking style but they have trouble getting through a good solid defense. Iran is also an attacking team with a not-so-good back line. Iran is especially bad with aerial balls that come in by way of crosses and set plays and we do receive most of our goals from better European and South/Central American teams through headers (4 of the 5 goals in games against Germany in World Cup 98 and Mexico yesterday). The reason for this, as Kelvin pointed out, is that our defense is really bad at marking the players from the other team. The Mexican players involved in the first and third goal for Mexico were wide open. Nobody from our team was shadowing them and there was absolutely no challenge against them when they were heading the ball. Compare that to the way Angolan defenders were marking the Portuguese players or crosses and set plays and you see the huge contrast.
Iran is used to playing against Arab and Asian teams with players who are shorter and generally don’t try to score against Iran on headers. So our team doesn’t have the necessary experience to defend against teams that frequently use this form of attack. Portuguese are even better Mexican at scoring on aerial balls so we could get in a lot of trouble this coming Saturday if we allow Portugal to run up the sides and cross the ball.
That’s exactly what Ronaldo likes to do and I don’t see any chance in hell of Nosrati (who plays on that same side) being able to stop him. Branko has to either replace Nosrati with someone faster, more disciplined, and more competent or he has to assign one of the defensive midfielders to boost the left defense and help to keep Ronaldo from crossing the ball. The best candidate for that job would be Teymourian, the number 14 midfielder that Kelvin also pointed out.

Afshin,
i don’t care if we lose but I hope we do give our best and play some good football like some of the video clips we have posted and watched on this weblog. Just the way Angola and Ghana have done so far. That is what would make the fans happy.

Rashir,
Good suggestions! I hope Ivankovic was reading this weblog. But unfortunately he is not. He is not going to correct the same errors and we are going to lose. Anyways the game we could have won and had counted on was the one against Mexico not Portugal.

I am very glad that Ali daei won’t play in next match.
i am sure our other forwardes are better than he.
our big problem is our coach.

all went happy and at least a crowded “Azadi” shouted happily , one said that “it’s unbelievable!!” ye but it was Ali Daei who came out of the field while pretending that he is injured, and then a motivated “team melli” whithout his most hated veteran trashed “japan” with a heroic performance of “Vahid Hashemiyaan”,after that all said that it was an arrangement or agreement that the head coach and the capitan had fixed before that essential match.
and now after an astonishing performance with “saba battery” daei appease his critics but no one can be mum or quite any more he was absoluotly nothing in Irans first match at 2006 wc all iranian went frustrated again all conisder him as one of main reasons for “team melli”s failure.
but there is some good news and it seems that finally he realized that he can not play anymore!!
and again they reached for an agreement(he and the chicken livered and pavid cuz croat coach) i,ve heard the news that daei can not play agins Portugal and he had a great backache!!!(the poltroon coach stated that!!!)
it’s a good news but guess it’s to late!!!!

he meant that the most capped iranian player had a great occasion to watch his national side match at 2006wc finals! he was the closest supporter to “team melli” he did all chants well!! guess he was the best fan of the day!! i saw him sometimes on tv screen with Iran’s complete kit!!

Finally Team Melli has been blessed. That retard is outta there. Iran actually played 10 against 11 versus mexico. Daei didn’t do anything. It seemed he didn’t even care they lost or won.
We can all hope now Mirzapoor will have the same fate, but don’t count on it.

Ali daei is team melli’s godfather.
he won’t let us breathe.
let’s hope he’d have some pride and not play against portugal.
you guyes hsould be ashamed, seriousely, i think daei has done so much for iran he the soul of iranian football, even if he doesnt play aas good as he used too, he still has a huge Influence in the team hes like the dad, he is the leader he is who every young iranian footballer look too, one of wich is myself i might be 12 but i know that you guyes shouldnt slag him off like that,
thats just dredfull.
cant you guyes just try and respect him, please for the sake of god, i just feel so bad now, going back to the hotel and singing like that, can you imagine how that must feel, i thought us iranians had a heart but i clearly was wrong.
p.s how ashamed should you and all the rest of the people who slag daei should feel, i me a 12 year old kid can say to all you guyes you should be ashamed, i feel so bad now, soooo bad, poor daei, he isn’t injured hes just hurt so bad inside, 10 years ago everyone said he this that hes the best now hes just trash, shame on you all seriousley
cant you people just shut the f*** up about him show some respect think you can do better?
for gods sake the man is human, if he wasnt good enough or he shouldnt have being in the team then the coatches would have kept him out, he is here for a reason maybe on the pitch he gives iranians some mental suport or he helps them, and from what i have seen he aint even bad hes still the best iranian striker in my opinion, and trust me if daei had the chance in the first half that hashemian tried backhiling to show off, he would have smashed it in the back of the net, so people just shut up and leave the guy alone.

ali daei very old and he has not any skill in the match but beranko want use of he in the all the match and cause angry many iranian football fan.
I’ve been reading every single Iranian blog and all of you guys bash Mexico like if were have no quality players. Don’t forget Korea/Japan 2002 when Mexico was in the group of death with Belguim and Holland and yet Mexico still made it. Mexico is also one of the countries that pays really good to soocer players. A lot of Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentinians go to Mexico to play. You guys really don’t know a lot about Mexico soccer but believe me don’t underestimate Mexico because they can kick ass. all Mexicans know that Mexico and Portugal will make it to the next round, no doubt about that. And come on regardless of the changes that your coach did, Iranian might have dominated in the first round but one thing in ever game that I watched in the World Cup so far every single game except the Checz who easily beat the USA, barily beat their opponents. Mexico has a history for participating in every World Cup and were the number one in the CONCACAF back then. I don’t want to talk bad any other country because believe me I know some countries that are in the World Cup that will are very weak but I am not here to pinpoint fingers. Each country needs to demonstrate their talents according to their quality players. If Iran could beat Mexico, then I really want to see them beat Angola, or Portugal to see for yourself.
we all know we played really bad in the second half but come on people. you can’t blame just one person. its sad that ali daei went out like this. we all know he should have retired a long time ago but you cant blame him only. our team work in generall wasnt flash. the person we can blame the most is the coach!! our goal keeper made mistakes. and so did other players. i dont disagree that ali daei should have left a long time ago but give him a break..let him still leave with dignity….he’s been a hero…let him leave as a hero!!

I think any player should be at his national team. Then it’s the coach who decides which player should be selected. I really don’t think a player can say: OK I’m off I don’t want to play for the national team any more. That’s what happend about Zidane in France. Many journalists were of the same opinions sayig that he doesn’t have the right to leave the national team. May be only because they really needed him, but I think it’ the general manner to do it. Now if Daie doesn’t have his place in the national team I think it’s the coach we have to blame who has selected him. May be like manu other things in Iran the decision is based on other things than sport. If so I can’t help you.

Just to let you guys know a friend of mine (iranian american journalist) asked Ivankovic (couple of months ago) why he was letting Daei play. Ivankovic told him that it was out of his hands. Its sucks to see the coach having such little control over his own team.
i heared that ali daie is iranian Mafiaa!
mmm what do you think about that? Isna said their is just 1 game in all this year taht ali that was not in that!ohhh haaah!
hey ivankovich and that dadkan gave f*** our team! so we must loos and say bye bye to wc cuse of some stupid guys!i dont know what ali daei gave in this years by playing on footbball team!

Not at all but ali daei has injuries in his back that is visible in his walking also.If he will not play than who will encourage the team.
payam if you dont know what he gave, then your more stupid then i’d though you’d be.

for all you people bashing daei, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves. So what if he didnt play that well agaisnt Mexico? a lot of our players didnt play well, so stop blaming him. Blame the coach instead, hes the one who made us loose, not Ali Daei. I though us Persians would have love and respect for him, but i guess i was wrong. have you guyz forgotten those 148 appareneces he made for Iran? and all the goals he made? and just becuase of one game you guys are disrecpecting yourselves. you guyz are really sad blaming the team’s problems on one guy.
