Hashemian and Hannover crash and burn!

Vahid Hashemian

Mahdavikia and Hamburg had a tough day, but it could not compare to the horrible day that Vahid Hashemian and Hannover had!

Bremen trashed them 5:0 and Hashemian was right there on the pitch for all 90 minutes of it!

So far this weekend it is 0:2 for the Iranian deligation in the Bundesliga. Tomorrow, Freydoon Zandi’s Kaiserslautern will face Gladbach. I hope they have a better time of it this weekend!

Afshin, what is most popular league in Iran? Do people follow the Bundesliga because of these guys or is there another league that people prefer?

Hi Bob, I can only talk for my generation. When we were growing up, Germany, Brazil, and England were the most popular side on the international front. Also, we used to catch German and English league games on TV. So we grew up idolizing these sides. German’s were of special interest because of Franz Beckenbauer. He had great appeal in Iran. Starting with the 1966 World Cup he was widely hailed as one of the best there was.

For this generation of Iranian football fans, most of the interest in German league is generated by the presence of Iranian players.

Hmm! .. Maybe I should put this up as a question.
