Heard about the lamb sacrifice in Bulgaria?
You’ve got to love how information age brings us all together. Years ago many of the things that we hear about, would have never made their way to our corner of the globe.
This is a good thing but it also creates a bi-product that may cause friction. That bi-product is conflict between cultures who had very limited contact in the past.
In the past we would have not heard about the Rangers’ “Sectarian” chants unless we lived close by in Europe. Or who would have heard about the ridicules story of the Cologne brothel?
Contact is a good thing. It’ll help us learn from each other or give us an opportunity to help each other. We heard about what happened in Tehran with the female football fans, and we did something about it. We signed petitions, we wrote letters, and we spread the word. Now there are signs that Iranian women may be allowed to enter stadiums sometime soon. I am not saying our on-line petition did it, but they definitely contributed to spreading the word.
As for myself, I love the information highway. I spend way too many hours on it, and am paying for it by the increasing size of my waist.
Anyway, here is another odd one for you. Apparently some football club sacrificed a lamb before a key game and painted the goalposts with the blood in the hope remaining in top division. Unfortunately it did not work, and they lost the game anyway. Would I have ever heard about this 20 years ago? Probably not.
