Iran vs. Ukraine friendly
Rumors out of Tehran via Germany earlier today suggested that Ukraine may be cancelling their friendly match with Iran scheduled for March 1.
Apparently Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) published a news article by a German magazine or newspaper that quoted Ukraine’s coach Oleg Blokhin (who happens to be one of my childhood football heroes) saying that the game has been called off for good. Within the hour Iranian Football Federation (IRIFF) dismissed it as mere rumor and insisted that the game is still on and will take place as previously scheduled.
Iranian football federation has a very poor relationship with the Iranian press these days. Not much of what they tell to or about each other is without some ulterior motive. So I suppose we won’t know for sure whether the game is on or not until Ukrainian football authorities decide to shed some light on this.
