Karimi vs. Marquez

Iran's national football team and Germany's Bayern Munich player, Ali Karimi exercises at their camp in Tehran, 20 May 2006. Iran's squad hasn't had the easiest time in its quest for football's greatest prize. The Iranian team, one of Asia's top sides and currently 22nd in the FIFA world rankings, have also found them themselves suffering from the fall-out of their hardline government's worsening relationship with the West. Iran is in Group D with Mexico, Portugal and Angola and have chosen the southern German city of Friedrichshafen as their World Cup base.AFP PHOTO/BEHROUZ MEHRI (Photo credit should read BEHROUZ MEHRI/AFP/Getty Images) Mexico's national soccer player Rafael Marquez controls the ball during Mexico's national soccer team training sesion in Goettingen, Germany, on Tuesday June 6, 2006. FIFA site printed a nice article about the upcoming Iran-Mexico encounter. The author predicts the key match-up of the game to be the one between Rafael Marquez and Ali Karimi. I don’t have to tell you how I feel about Karimi, but I must tell you that I am a big Marquez fan too. I followed his career from the days he played in France. Since I got me Gol TV, I have been watching him play for Barcelona. He is a solid defender. This will be a good encounter.

I didn’t realize that Karimi invented dribbling. I guess I would be more impressed if they finished any of those great plays.
