Post-Match quotes by coaches and players

Croatian head coach of the Iranian team Branko Ivankovic gestures in their first round Group D World Cup football match against Mexico at Nuremberg's Franken Stadium, 11 June 2006. Mexico scored twice in three second-half minutes to beat Iran 3-1, and give a massive boost to their bid to go past the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time. (BEHROUZ MEHRI/AFP/Getty Images)

Daei is injured! That’s the best news for Team Melli and 70,000,000 Iranians!

I wish the same thing happen to Mirzapour so we’ll win Portugal and Angola! Believe me…!

Please pray for Ali Karimi to pass his injury.

Iran was donig great ar the first half. We could have won. But the tupical persian mentality steppid in . They tought mexico was Shit and they could win ba slacking off and just defending. Mexico pushed on us. and they broke the defence. Bad choob to konemon raft and we lost… If i was ahmadinejad i would fire iran’s coach right in the spot.

i am suprised no one had mentioned the fitness level and awareness on the field that iran lacks…compare to alot of other soccer nations,

we lack both of those..and thats why 2nd half went the way it did…NO FITNESS…THATS A HUGE PROBLEM..
AND FORGODS SAKES …GET THAT DAI OUT OF HERE…HE F***ING SUXXXXX..AND CHANGE THE GOALIEE…
THE END.
GOOD LUCK NEXT GAME

Bati, people like ahmadinejad are hired to intentionally keep iran down in every aspect. So i would imagine he would favour an incompetent coach so that iran could fail in football as well.

Ali,

The petition is completely unnecessary and untimely!!! We have all discussed the fact that Daei was too old and not on the best shape to be included in 2006 squad. However, that decision is made and now is not the time to dispute it. Removing him now will only hurt the Team morals. And he was not the reason we have lost anyway. Even if he is not making a difference.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but I heard that a few hours after Iran-Mexico game a large group of angry Iranian football fans had gathered in front of the hotel where Team Melli was staying and started shouting “Ali Daei hayaa kon, Team Melli ro rahaa kon.” The next morning (today) it was announced that he is injured and won’t play in the Portugal game.

Obviously this is to save face, otherwise, if he was determined to play and if this was a real injury, with 6 days left before the next game they would not rule him out of that game so quickly and would have waited for more tests near the end of the week before making a final decision.

It’s too bad that he went out like this. He could have left the Team Melli in dignity earlier this year. He would have enjoyed the respect of the people rather than have to endure their criticism.

Unfortunately, like all others in our country and throughout our history, when he got to a position of power he didn’t know when to quit.

WOW…HOW SAD…YOU not only are not “hameie melate iran”,you are actually a disgrace to all Iranians…We love Ali agha and every other player that wears that jersey..I personally don’t give a damn even if they lose.Daei have Earned so much credits throughout his career and deserves better than this..we should watch where our frustrations are taking us to…I’m pretty sure there are better ways to express ourselves..
