The president meets Team Melli
Looks like Iran’s president Mahmood Ahmadinejad has discovered Team Melli’s Public Relations potential.
Yesterday he paid a surprise visit to the team’s practice session and kicked the ball around some.
I hope that doesn’t constitute mixing football with politics (wink, wink!) and I further hope the other politicians do not follow suite. The last thing we need is to have the national team practice sessions interrupted every time a politician needs to increase his popularity amongst his constituency.

Hi Afshin,
I was wondering if you could help me. I will be working for HBS who are the host broadcasters during the world cup. As a result we have to find info on each team, so i was wondering if you could help me in regards to the Iran national team? We are looking for info on the players and the team their strengths/weaknesses. Areas which people might talk about say whilst talking to friends. For example: for England we know Rooney is the best player and that we have a problem with our left side and what formation to play to suit our best players, we just need to this sort of infomation for Iran. Anything you have got will be of use to us and I would be very grateful for anything you could email me.
Thank you
Kind Regards
Matt Smith
