What could’ve been
Three years ago an Iranian first division club took an extraordinary step; it allowed a small group of female fans to attend a game in the stadium.
The club was Paykan of Tehran, and the date was January 9, 2003. At that time it seemed like things were moving to the right direction for the female football fans in Iran, but now three years later it seems that things are back to square one.
Iranian women are doing more than their share to get the right to watch the beautiful game; however, there seems to be a lack of interest from the male fans to support their cause.
There is an online petition that was setup by a couple of concerned Iranians after the Iran-Costa Rica friendly. I encourage all who have not done so to sign their names to this petition which will be turned over to FIFA and other international sports organizations after the World Cup in Germany.
