When will Daei explode?!

April 2nd, 2008 | By: Afshin Afshar | 1 Comment »

Ali DaeiAli Daei’s reign as Iran’s Head Coach may be in its infancy, but one thing that is becoming very clear to average fan is the fact that the new coach has a very short fuse, especially when it comes to dealing with reporters and their persistent questioning. This was of course not a secret to many insiders, but the high exposure Team Melli job is likely to make more fans aware of the coach’s personality.

Upon returning from Kuwait City after Iran’s 2-2 tie with Kuwait in their second game of the World Cup 2010 Qualifying Group 5 match, Daei was approached by a reporter who pushed him on the question of including European based players, specifically Mehdi Mahdavikia and Vahid Hashemian. The coach, who has been known for getting into shouting matches with reporters, almost lost his temper again, but managed to keep in check and insisted that he would only invite those players who are in good form for their clubs.

It will be interesting to see if the ever provocative Iranian reporters will eventually make the coach breakdown and show his temper on the bigger stage of International football.
