Iran defeats Germany

January 28th, 2006 | By: Afshin Afshar | No Comments »

Yesterday Iran defeated Germany in an international tournament with the final score of 1:0. One minor detail though, it was an Under-19 youth tournament.

Okay, so it wasn’t the real thing, but so what?! A win is a win!

The tournament was the Qatar International Youth Friendship Football Tournament. Iran, Germany, Korea Republic, and Switzerland were in Group B. And Korea won the group decisively. Germans were the runner-ups.

Despite the victory, Iran was eliminated and the Germans moved on to the next round thanks to a better goal average per game.

Oh well! At least those kids can go back home and brag about defeating the Germans. I know I would.

In Group A Japan finished first and Austria second.

In the semis, Japan will face off with Germany and Korea with Austria.

My hat is off to South Korea and Japan. They are proving that they mean business at all levels; youth and senior.

I hope it is an all Asian finals. It will be a boost to the continent’s youth program.

Well done Japan and Korea. Keep up the good work.
