Lavolpe taking a lesson from Branko?!

May 2nd, 2006 | By: Afshin Afshar | 6 Comments »

Ricardo Lavolpe, Branko Ivankovic, Luis de Oliveira Goncalves, and Luiz Felipe Scolari

A few months ago, under pressure, Team Melli coach Branko Ivankovic agreed to have a meeting with all the Iranian Pro League coaches, all 16 of them, and “exchange ideas”.

A whole bunch of them showed up, sat around, and talked. I don’t know what they talked about but after it was all over everyone went back to business as usual. Branko did things as he has always done and the other coaches did the same. Frankly speaking, absolutely nothing came out of it.

Tonight I was browsing the World Cup Blog. Lo and behold I ran into an interesting piece of news in the Mexico blog! Mexico coach Lavolpe is doing the very same thing! He is meeting with a few previous Mexico coaches to hear their ideas!

I’ll be watching this very closely. Who knows, maybe I could learn something from Lavolpe!

Ticos are from Costa Rica. Although considering that the last 3 WC Coaches for the Tricolor haven’t gotten past the 2nd round, maybe he should meet with the Ticos instead.

They are called el tricolor. or el tri for short. They are also known as the conjunto azteca. There are some other nicknames I will share if things go badly for Mexico

Thanks my friend. I like “el tricolor”, it also applies to Team Melli. As you know Iran’s flag has three colors as well, and they are the same colors as Mexico’s :)
