Angola just handed Team Melli a lifeline by keeping a very strong and attacking Mexican team to a goalless draw. The hero of the game in my mind was Angolan goalkeeper Joao Ricardo who made a numer of fantastic saves.

This is an excellent result for Angola who were thought to be the whipping boys of Group D, but they have proven to be real football warriors. What they may lack in teamwork they compensate for in individual effort.

Congratulations Angola.

Now let’s go back to Team Melli. Until now we were desperate, but with this result, it is possible that we could go through with four points. This was the best possible result we could have asked for. Our destiny is now in our own hands.

Let us hope Ivankovic puts fear aside and fields an attacking team.

This group is turning our to be more interesting than I thought :)

Can’t imagine Iran winning this. Portugal must start firm favourites and should easily qualify for the round of 16

Watching the game?

Iranian team…WTF??? They don t play the ball they keep kicking the Portuguese players and cheat the referee…

What’s that? Asian way of playing? No wonder there’s no football worth watching there…

We CANNOT play for a draw and hope for anything. If we draw we are out. As Mexico and Portugal will draw and both go in to the second round. Also if portugal beats mexico and we draw we lose the tiebreaker, we also lose the tiebreaker against portugal unless we beat angola by alot of goals. A draw is a very stupid thing to go for. Realisticly with all draw scenarios compiled, if iran loses or draw they are out of contention completely. They MUST win to have any chance of going to the second round. Remeber a draw allows portugal and mexico to tie and both get 5 points elimiating both iran and angola, and a draw means if portugal beats mexico we lose the tiebreaker, if mexico beats portugal we need to make up 3 goals to win the tiebreaker. We need to win to go in. This is a fact, anyone that says we go for a draw is asking for iran to lose.

What this game cannot afford, what neither team should settle for, what we don’t deserve, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, is eleven angry men on each side playing to another scoreless draw, and spending more time playing Smackdown than football, as they are now.

Shahed: Karimi could not do anything and did not do anything! I think the injury really shut him down. So, I really think Branko made good subs in this game. Maybe Enayati would’ve been better than Khatibi but overall I’m proud of our team now.
