The crazy world of Iranian football
Last year one of the top Iranian Pro League teams fired its German coach. The translator who happened to be the son-in-law of the Technical Director stayed on despite the fact that there were no Germans left on the team for whom he could translate.
Just about the same time the team signed two Panamanian players, but hired a Spanish translator for them.
The Technical Director took over the coaching job, the son-in-law continued to show up at the club house, and the Panamanians kept on practicing with the team.
Finally a reporter asked the Technical Director how he was communicating to his Panamanian players. He said his son-in-law was translating for him!
“But I thought he speaks German!” the reporter exclaimed.
“Yeah, but he’s lived in Italy for a couple of years too!!” the Technical director said before walking away and leaving the reporter trying to make sense of this all.
