Drop the idle teams from the ranking list!

April 19th, 2006 | By: Afshin Afshar | 4 Comments »

FIFA’s monthly rankings are a funny thing. On one hand they to give you a measure on how each team is doing, on the other hand they could completely misrepresent a team’s true potential or ability.

Take Iran for example, according to the latest rankings Iran stands 22nd in the world. That puts them over Uruguay, Croatia, Romania, and Poland to name a few. I am not going to get into an argument on whether Iran is really stronger than these nations or not, but I can tell you for sure that we do NOT know for sure! Why? Because Iran has not played a real game in weeks.

Perhaps FIFA should have a rule to not include teams that have been idle for more than a certain time period. You don’t play, you don’t get ranked; period!

A very very important matter, never use ‘farsi’ instead of ‘Persian’, read these articles and correct all of your posts. Thank you.

Hi Sassan: Thanks for your note. (1)To blog you need to contact our big Jefa Bob. (2) I don’t agree with those who argue for not using “Farsi”, but if it makes you happy I will try to remember to use “Persian” on this blog from here on. Cheers.

You know what I like about western countries Afshin? They’re proud of their country and support it even if things do go wrong sometimes (which they do). If we want respect we have to earn it. Let’s start with showing some respect to our own country.

Thanks for your comment Mehrdad, and I agree with you whole heartedly. What I do not respect is incompetent management though.
