Punish the cheaters

March 24th, 2006 | By: Afshin Afshar | No Comments »

Apparently Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is fed up with divers and is calling for tougher penalties to punish diving.

I think that is a good thing, but I ant to add faking injuries to the list.

How many times a game have you seen a player from a team, which is probably leading in score, fall and scream in agony as if he has broken all the bones in his body, only to get up and run moments later with no apparent sign of the supposed injury?

This is a prevalent problem in Asian football. It is so bad that Team Melli fans, who watch opponents use this time wasting tactic over and over, have a nicknamed it “Grass rolling!”. No, not the kind of rolling that you may do sitting on your couch when your buddies come to hang out, I am talking about the kind that cheating players do on a soccer pitch!

Anyway, I want to see Asian referees to flash that yellow card they’ve got at a player that keeps repeating this maneuver in the same game. Or perhaps have the player stay out of the game for a mandatory 2 or three minutes when they are carried out on a stretcher.

Let’s keep the games flowing as they should be by keeping cheaters off the pitch.
