The ancient fine art of trash talking!
(I had originally posted this on January 13, 2006, but after reading some of the unfriendly trash talking that is going on, I decided to report it.)
If you have ever had Iranian friends, you’d know that we are champion trash talkers! I am not talking about the kind of trash talking that you see these days by many sports fans most of which seem to end in a fistfight, or a barrage of verbal abuse at best. I am talking about the kind of trash talking that we Iranians call “Kor-Kori or just “Kori” for short.
The ground rules are very simple:
1) You never insult the other person
2) It is all done in good humor and for pure fun and
3) Win or loose, you never stop running your mouth, or you’ll really loose!
Backgammon seems to be the game brings out the best trash talker in us, but we can also do some damage in other situations, like while playing football for example.
I remember a friend of mine in college who could trash talk anyone under the table.
During one football game in which we were totally out played by the other team, I had to beg him to shut up because he was only encouraging the other guys score more goals on me, the goalkeeper! After we lost the game by a double digit goal difference, he walked up to the other guys and told them he was not that impressed, because if we were half as good as they were we would have scored twice as many goals!!!
Get the picture? Win or loose you must have something, anything, to say or you will really loose!
Over the years, I have made friends from many different nationalities. Many from South and Central America, Italy, and Spain have impressed me with their trash talking skills, especially Brazilians. Man! They can trash talk you while they are dribbling past by you and three of your friends!
Italians, in my experience, are champion trash talkers of Europe. Where they may fall short of the Brazilians in ball handling techniques, they make up for with their trash talking.
Unfortunately, this art seems to be becoming extinct. Nowadays, everywhere on the Internet where football is being discussed, especially in the rivalry discussion boards, people are tossing insults at each other.
I wish more fans chose having fun over fighting. After all it will be another four years before so many of us from around the world have something as much fun to chat about.
So with that note, I predict that Iran will easily win Group D and move on to the second round, before making it through to the semifinals!!

Iran is already thinking about defending it’s championship in 2010.
Iran dosen’t even take FIFA based tournements seriously, if they did they would have won every single one up until now, just like they have with tournaments like the deaf world cup or high school world cup.
Ya better recognize!

Iran’s German player are so familiar with stadiums that they can play closed eyes. They can count their steps to know where exactly in the pitch they are and how many steps away the opponents are!

Iran is so prepared this World Cup, that FIFA is considering giving them the cup even without going through the fomalities of playing the games. This will save a lot of faces too. Like the current champions, mighty Brazil, losing to the third timers Iran.

I’ve been kind fo sarcastic about some of those trash comments!
Like our preparation, Daei’s good shape, or familiarity of our German based players. But all this aside, I still beleive we will bit Mexico and qualify for next round.
