The boys finally get a point
Iran played somewhat better in their last game against Angola, but still came away with only one point. The game ended a 1:1 draw.
It was nice to see veterans Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh, and yes even Ali Daei play their farewell game. It was also nice to see Zandi show us what he can do when healthy, and have younger players like Khatibi, Madanchi, Shojaei, and Borhani get some playing time. These guys are the future.
Mahdavikia was very good. What a bundle of energy he is!
Portugal defeated Mexico 2:1 so the two of them go through. Iran and Angola go home. We finish last in the group because Angola has a better goal difference.
This wasn’t exactly we hoped it would end, but hey, we knew the team had a lot of problems. Our coaching was weak, our preparations were inadequate, and injuries hurt us really bad.
But, this is what it is all about, and I salute our 23 for giving all they could under the circumstances.
Long live Iran and we LOVE you Team Melli

If we had played the way we did today against Mexico we would have beat them. They’re over-rated. But this is our only third WC appearance, so I think the future looks bright. We’ve come a long way.

Out of all this, I feel sorry the most for Mahdavikia. He put the most energy into this World Cup for us. I beleive he had truely set his goal on second round this time. Even in Portugal game he did not give up until the last secon. Of course, I’m sure every body worked hard, but I find him the most sincere. I wish more luck Team Melli in future!

Yes, I agree. Mahdavikia was clearly our best player in this World Cup. He could not run in the first game against Mexico because of his back pain. But still our only goal in that game came from his corner kick. The same goes for our goal today against Angola and many of the other chances for goal we had in the games against Portugal and Angola. Overall, I would say Mahdavikia, Zandi, Teymourian, Kaebi, and Rezai were our top performers in the 3 games. Of course there were other ones too who did a good job here and there but these 5 players were the most reliable and consistent.

Hey Payam, Mexico almost kick Argentina’s ass by the neck, but that autogoal really helped Argentina. Too bad that a simple mistake like that really cost Mexico a lot. Again never under estimate Mexico, because they can get very serious about it. See you in next four years. Remember Mexico won the U-17 FIFA World Cup, they will be playing in the next four years. Good luck with your National Team, I wish you guys the best brother!!! PEACE
