Don’t let FIFA rankings get to your heads!
I was looking at FIFA rankings for November and notices that Iran has been ranked 44th in the world and 3rd in Asia. What bowl of crap!
I know what you are thinking! You are thinking I am going to argue that Iran should be ranked higher, yes? Well if you are, you’re wrong! I think Iran is ranked too high!
I assure you Iran’s first squad can not defeat the likes of Slovakia, Tunisia, Finland, Norway, Belgium, Slovenia, or Belarus, all of which are ranked lower, on regular basis from now until FIFA’s next ranking in December.
As for Asia, frankly I believe Saudi Arabia and Korea Republic should be ranked ahead of us. What’s funny is that under the much maligned Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic Team Melli at some point was ranked as high as 19 just prior to 2006 World Cup, but a tie was the best they could do against Angola, one of the lower ranked teams in the tournament.
What is the lesson in this? Forget the freaking ranking and win games, many of them!
