The IFF said no to Holland, says Kaffashian

May 29th, 2009 | By: Afshin Afshar | 4 Comments »

Afshin GhotbiAccording to one of the mainstream Iranian news agencies, the Dutch football federation had approached the IFF for a friendly in February of 2010. The IFF, however, rejected the offer because according to IFF President Ali Kaffashian “There was no point in having this game”!

I am not sure how I feel about this! On one hand, I agree (yes don’t be shocked!) with Ali Kaffashian; what is the point of having a match with Netherlands? What good did the match against German National Team a few years ago did for Iranian football? Not much and that is the truth!

On the other hand, the Iranian football fans are sick to their stomach of watching their Team Melli heroes play third or fourth rated teams from Europe, Asia, and Africa. They want to see their team try their skills against big name teams.

What do you think?

Well, we always play better when facing a stornger team!!! Now you would argue that does not help us in anyways win our qualification games with the same old Asian teams. Howere, at least, it’s fun to watch team melli play good football even if it does not perpare us pass the qualification round. My point, if we can not get to play these teams in real tournoment why not enjoy watching team melli play them in friendlies!!!! :)

But also, I do think, if we get enough chances playing these stong teams (not just an occasional show), in long term we will improve, gain confidence, and benefit from it.

I see how you are kia! You talk me into writing something “controversial” and then you turn around and dismiss it with a very logical argument! :-P
