Iran lose to China in Qinhuangdao friendly, so what?!
Team Melli lost their Monday friendly with China. This was the team’s last official friendly before meeting Korea DPR.
Ghotbi was very measured in his post game interview. He correctly pointed out that Team Melli has three crucial qualifier matches remaining, and this friendly was designed to help him and his staff to improve on some of the existing weaknesses.
I did not see the game myself (No coverage in my area), but according to some articles that I read, there were plenty of positives for Iran. One big negative, however, continues to be missing scoring chances. We just do not have good finishers.
Ghotbi’s detractors will be filling up the front pages of their newspapers with their songs of doom, but I am still very optimistic about our chances against Korea DPR.

I, too, was not able to watch the match. In fact, I do not even know who played, what system we used, and what we were going after. It is not unusual to lose a math like this. Can you imagine if we had done all Ghotbi wanted our guys to do; just like his plan for North Korea’s game? That would have been like telling N. Korea come and watch the game and learn all you want about our strategy against you guys. Again, I believe we will win 2-1. It may not be a perfect match; but at the end, we will put the ball twice in the back of their net. All we need is that very 1st goal. Remember, N. Korea needs to win as well. They have a game against Saudi Team and they too do not want to end up as the 3rd Team. This is actually a good thing for us. Why? Because playing against a very rough and nasty Team like N. Korea, counter atatck is the way to go. We do have fast guys up front.
I would have our guys defending 10-15 meters in front of the midfield and make Korans to have no choice but to move the ball side to side. That is how we won against US Team. In fact, it worked against Australia too. Karimi, Kazemian, Shojaiee; and even, Hashemian can finish it. Go Iran!!!

I read a lot of negative about it… and then watched the game (rerun) tonight. And guess what, it was not as bad as I had read every where. Sure they were not brilliant but there is still hope… We played well the first half but did not create any real chances. We lost contorl of the game toward the end in second half. The goal, Rahmati could not save because he was unlucky. But there were couple other better opportunites for Chinese toward the end and we got lucy on those. They played ok over all considering some key players were missing. And some of the capable players were not as effective and were subbed out. e.g. Ando and Zandi. Even Mahdavikia was not at his best. Some players seemed to be playing out of position. It felt as if there was some experimentation going on by the coach. Which if really the case, it is good news and leaves room for some hope that the final shape of team would be an improvement and more stable for Korea game.

I am convinced that the boys will rise to the occasion. This is just a gut feeling, nothing more.
Besides, I do not wnat us get eliminated because that means I will have to stop running this blog!

Hey! If they are eliminated, we’ll find another coutnry here to congregate!!! Was it Argentina last time?! It would be a shame if we would have to do that this early in the game though!!!

I think it was Argentina and then Brazil. But, like you, I do not want to miss the big party
