Preview: Iran v Korea DPR
John Duerden, goal.com’s Asia Editor, has been very generous to Team Melli with his predictions. Unfortunately, Team Melli has been letting him and the rest of its fans down in recent years. We have been struggling since our less than stellar performance in Germany 2006.
Well, John is not giving up on us yet! Read his preview of Iran v Korea DPR. I sure hope John’s got it right this time

LOL
Well, the only part worries me is that Iran needs to be playing an open game, as he has suggested. If we, as a team, start defending from 55-60 meter line, the congestion, especially in a 4-2-3-1 system, will cost Koreans more than it will cost us. How can they counter attack? It will be us who will be counter attacking, instead. I think this is a much better approach for us, since we have less ability to finish our chances. Different opinions but similar predictions

Guys, I hope you will not laugh at this but I am dead serious about this:
I think very lowly of Iranian football and it’s not really only because of the weak performances of TM in recent years – in my opinion everything that can be wrong is wrong with our football – so if I was brought in as a consultant to solve the problems of the Iranian football, what I would do first, would be to shut down all the league programs for at least one year and start teaching football in Iran from absolute scratch (yes, that’s how bad I think our football is) by doing the following:
1- Teach players how to run towards & with the ball:
At the moment a lot of players chase the ball from wrong angles – when a player starts his run he should be absolutely aware of his surroundings and move with the ball accordingly: (tell Nikbakht Vahedi that)! – thank god he’s not in the team any more – the guy is a total idiot.
2- Our defenders have got no clue how to defend:
A lot of our defenders have not been taught proper defending and to me they’re just like brainless sheep dropping themselves in front of the ball in a random manner!
3- There are absolutely no co-ordination between any of the lines i.e. defence, midfield and the front lines – unless this has been taught to the players we will never see our teams performing like a team and goals will only be scored by chance rather than by design.
4- Pay myself a fat cheque (check) and retire to South of France because at last someone managed to sort out the ills of Iranian football

Sorry, I forgot to mention one point:
I still stand by my views if TM wins all the 3 remaining matches! To me that will not cure the deep problems our football has; the ones that I mentioned above!!

Hamid jAn salAm,
So what do you REALLY think about Iranian football?!!
I here you loud and clear, but as my brother always says to me, there are so many things wrong with the fundamentals of our football that the only thing we can do under the current circumstances is to only focus 90 minutes at a time on the green rectangle, that’s all!
Common now, we have less than 24 hours to go! Just repeat after me:
Doo doo roo doo doo ……….. IRAN!!!!!!
One more time, I know you can do it!
Doo ………… doo …………….. roo …………. doo ……….. doo …………. IRAN!!!!

Afshin jan the last salam from me before the match – you have a wise brother BTW –
Have you ever wondered we have so many wise people out of all of us Iranians, why don’t any of them work within the football establishment? Well, I’m going to answer that myself: Wise people have better things to do than teach a bunch of kids how to chase a ball.
But to make you happy and for the sake of our little blog here can continue, here’s my bit:
Doo ………… doo …………….. roo …………. doo ……….. doo …………. IRAN
Good luck to Iran despite what I said above!!

Thanks Hamid jAn

There you go Hamid
DOOO DOOO Roooo DOOO DOO” Iran
By the time you read this, probably the game has already been played and over with.
The US has been trying to change the soccer level in this nation and their goal was to make it to the top 4 in the world by the end of 2010.
They have come along; but even here, they still struggle. So teaching how to play soccer in Iran actually might be easier than here (individual techniques wise.) There is nothing else to do in Iran for kids but to do soccer. My personal techniques when I got to Holland (in 1990s) was much better than some of the Dutch guys I played with. I was in great shape too!!! So what the difference is between our guys and them is the way we teach football; which is called “Football Thinking.” It is a mindset and not just tecniques.
Ajax has a great training program and kids grow up that way. It is all about tactics and thinking that is taught from the get go; w/o kids even knowing about it. That is what we are missing. Replace training from the get go with the Dutch way, we will see serious difference. I agree

Doo doo roo doo doo ……….. IRAN!!!!!!
