Team Melli off to Tashkent

Team Melli boys had their last practice in Tehran on Thursday before flying to Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Friday for their Saturday friendly with the Uzbek national team.

The good news is that they are finally managing to schedule a few friendly matches; the bad news is that basically no one gives a damn!

Come on! Am I right or what? In chronological order: We missed on the big show in South Africa next summer; the presidential elections were stolen, about 100 people are dead, many of demonstrators are in jail, and the team just lost to Bahrain 4-2 in a friendly.

Anyway, life must go on. Let’s see what happens on Saturday, but my guess is another humiliating loss and Coach Afshin Ghotbi’s job will be in jepordy.

Did Iran follow through with ridding the team f all the players who wore he Green Wristbands during thier final qualifier?

Dear Pino,

A few of them “retired”, but it is hard to say if their retirement was a personal decision or was encouraged by those who did not appriciate the Green Wristbands. My guess is that it was a combination of both.

yes im aware of that BUT is this actually done with or is there a chance for them to come back onto the team…because without those players, Iran will surely sink on the world rankings
